In the tech industry, older and younger workers tend to seek different jobs, according to a recent report from Indeed. The job search site conducted a study that examined job seeker activity on tech postings. It separated “younger” and “older” workers at age 40, which is roughly the line between millennials and Gen Xers and the point when employees receive government protections based on age.
Younger tech workers were more interested in high-skilled engineering and development roles, including Java developer, machine learning engineer, data scientist, Javascript developer and front-end developer.
The older cohort clicked on jobs that required more experience or managerial responsibility and also was more interested in information technology jobs than the younger job seekers. The top 10 more distinct tech jobs for candidates age 40 to 64 were reported as follows:
- Vice president of information technology
- Director of information technology
- Chief engineer
- Director of security
- Director of product management
- Director of quality assurance
- IT manager
- IT project manager
- Lead architect
- IT architect
