GQR Collaborative: Spotlight on LinkedIn®

Thu, Jul 12 2018, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm | New York

GQR held its second installment of the GQR Collaborative on Thursday, July 12, 2018. We were honored to have the opportunity to feature Rosanna Durruthy: Head of Global Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (DIB) for LinkedIn® in a fireside chat.

Key takeaways from this chat included:

  1. Bringing the idea of belonging into focus and shifting the conversation from purely diversity and inclusion (D&I) in the workplace.
  2. Increasingly, we are seeing “diversity” become the norm in society rather than the exception – this requires businesses to approach diversity as more of an opportunity than an option.
  3. Companies that realize success through D&I show more willingness to be curious about it – they take on a learning mindset.
  4. Fostering a “secretive” environment with low visibility to senior leadership becomes harmful to attracting new talent and discourages engagement with the people you already have – particularly with a generation who are keen to be a part of the conversation.
  5. One-dimensional thinking isn’t conducive to innovation, company growth or an inclusive work environment. To achieve sustainable solutions, people must be able to understand and respect each other even when there is a difference in opinion or point of view.
  6. There should be a push to create more integrated and comprehensive plans that tie “people work” into overall business objectives.
  7. Although there is an instinct to ask talent acquisition functions to address the diversity question, companies first must seek to address how underrepresented groups in their organization will succeed.
  8. The role of a CEO is no longer limited to the products or services that define their organization – they must be champions and influencers of DIBs.
  9. Having a clearly defined culture is a must! This helps to attract people who resonate with what your company offers in addition to how you operate.
